PURPOSE
PURPOSE
My magazine would be a talking point for jazz fans across north London, this is because there will be exclusive interviews and critics opinions that will give jazz fans something to converse about. The magazine would inform readers by recommending jazz clubs, events and artists and keeping readers updated in the world of jazz. This will be useful because jazz has an underground scene that isn't as easy to stay updated with as pop or other mainstream genres. Readers would be able to discover more about the genre and have an insight into artists and venues that they wouldn't otherwise be aware of.
TARGET AUDIENCE
My primary audience would be hipsters aged 16-20 in north London who are interested in jazz or music and culture as a whole. My secondary audience would be people aged 60+ who were young when jazz was at its prime. My tertiary audience would be friends of jazz fans. I believe my magazine might appeal more to people of middle class backgrounds, but I would endeavour to reach people from all walks of life.
PRIMARY AUDIENCE:
PRIMARY AUDIENCE:
A young hipster in his late teens such as the example above would subscribe to the magazine because it would be symbolic of his way of life and character.
SECONDARY AUDIENCE:
An elderly jazz fan such as the one above would subscribe to the magazine to stay updated and aware of upcoming concerts, events at jazz clubs and festivals.
CONTENT
INTERVIEWS
I would organise exclusive interviews with popular artists in north London such as Moses Boyd, Shabaka Hutchings and Sheila Maurice-Grey, as well as upcoming or underappreciated artists, managers and producers. I have chosen to include interviews as readers will be able to read their stories first hand and be inspired.
VENUES
The magazine would recommend venues in north London and offer an insight into the history of the venues. The magazine would feature articles about a wide range of jazz venues based in north London, such as "Green note", "Ryan's bar", "Jazz cafe", "Cafe Otto", "Blues Kitchen" and "Vortex Dalston". The magazine would also cover venues in north London that aren't necessarily limited to jazz, but feature jazz artists on certain nights - King's Place in King's Cross, for example. Venues have been chosen because it is a North London based magazine and it will create more of a community and readers want to know what's near them.
REVIEWS
The magazine would have previews and reviews of concerts, new releases and nights in jazz clubs. The magazine would also review festivals such as the EFG London jazz festival. I chose reviews as it provides information to tell people what is going on.
UNIQUE SELLING POINT
I want my magazine to be a talking point for jazz fans in north London. I would accomplish this by including an interactive section. I would allow people with subscriptions to the magazine to email their own opinionated articles on events and venues to be featured in the magazine. I would revisit the articles in following magazines and feature responses from other readers. I believe this would achieve the purpose of conversation between jazz fans because they could comment their own opinions between them on topics explored in the articles. I would also have message boards online for online subscribers.

RESOURCES AND PERSONNEL
Additionally I will distribute the magazine in Jazz clubs to offer passionate fans of Jazz the chance to read about their favourite artists and hopefully entice them to become loyal fans of the magazine.
FORM
The form of the magazine will be
- Physical - The magazine will cost £4 for an individual copy, to be released fortnightly. There is a yearly subscription for the physical copy.
- Online - There is the chance for the online viewers to have a subscription. They will get the magazine through their e-mail and app services. There will be chance to get a discount if readers take up the chance to buy it on a subscription rate.
TITLE
The title of the magazine would be "ALL THAT JAZZ", this will catch potential readers eyes because it references a score from the popular musical "Chicago". The title is short, simple and representative of the content, it establishes the purpose of the magazine. The title will be in diskoteque font, the letters will be in gold against a black background. This style is associated with jazz and will catch the attention of jazz fans in north London.
GENRE
The genre of the magazine is jazz, I have chosen jazz because of its vibrant scene in north London. There are many popular jazz clubs in the region such as Cafe Oto, Jazz cafe, Vortex Dalston, Green note, Ryans cafe, Blues kitchen and more. There is a famous annual jazz festival (the EFG London jazz festival) that is unique to the area. Jazz has a chore following in north London, the magazine would reach a devoted audience.
The moodboard contains images of jazz venues such as the green note that will be featured in the magazine. The moodboard also contains a night view of London, where the magazine is based. As well as a series of jazz artists and a colour scheme to represent the mood of the magazine.
COMPETITION
I chose the gold because it's a vibrant colour. When people see gold they subconsciously associate it with luxury and warmth; this will influence my potential audience to buy the magazine. Furthermore, gold is a recurring theme in jazz. Brass instruments and saxophones are traditionally gold and spotlights in jazz bars are usually gold. Gold is appropriate for the magazine due to its connotations with jazz.
I chose the deep purple because it's representative of the night time, when most jazz events would take place. Purple is a bold colour that would advertise the magazine as it catches peoples attention.
I chose the turquoise green as its bright and complimentary to the purple. Therefore the contrast between the turquoise green and the purple would create a calm and dreamy mood.

FONTS
For bylines I would use the font "headline" because it's clear and bold, and grabs the readers' attention. It also suits the magazine because it is a recurring, traditional font in magazines.
For the articles I would use the font "arial'' because its simple and doesn't distract from the subject. The characters are clear and easy to read. Furthermore, the arial font is neatly structured, thus serving the purpose of being aesthetically pleasing.
