Post Production techniques and processes & Meeting the client Brief (U3: P5, M4, D1)

Learning Outcome 4 (U3): Be able to carry out post-production techniques and processes for an original media product to a client brief (M4, D1)

These are my final double page spread and front cover sample pages - they have been exported as JPEGs to meet the requirements of the client brief so that they can be printed and sent online.

Post-production tools and client brief (P5, M4, D1)

Front Cover

I used the gradient tool for the background to create a dreamy atmosphere as Jazz can transport listeners to this state of mind. The colours compliment themselves and appeal to my target audience. It is also quite a mature design, which again appeals to the target audience. This links to the client brief as I was required to reflect the vibrant music scene developing locally. I also used this tool as it reflects the creativity of music and blur between genres, which also appeals to the audience.

When I took my original image for my front cover, I chose to use a music room as the background. During the post-production stage, I used the magnetic lasso tool to cut out the main image of the performer. I wanted to promote a much more exciting, eye catching background for the reader as the original image was really boring. This tool was quite simple to use, however I needed to be careful when using it. The magazine promotes the music scene developing locally therefore I knew I had to make the artist a subject point. By removing him from the original background it definitely makes the artist more of a focal point by placing it on the coloured background and links to the client brief as it promotes the local music scene for people to know about.

I used the colour gold a lot on my front cover as it is a recurring theme in Jazz as it links with the instrument colours - saxophones, trumpets etc. I used this colour to echo this style of instrumentations.
Additionally, the lights in Jazz clubs are traditionally gold and as my magazine promotes different venues, this was a perfect colour to use.
The colour gold is also a symbol of class and power.
This links to the client brief as it is original content and is a colour that can be used across the print and online copy. Furthermore, it reflects the vibrant music scene.

The magazine I have been asked to create has to have a North London focus, therefore to meet this requirement I based my double page spread on a North London artist. Additionally, I used the drop shadow and outer glow tools to highlight these specific words, which further raises the importance of the key words I have been provided in the brief. It also demonstrates these words to my readers so they know exactly what they are reading about.

I used the black box and opacity tool, so that the wording would be legible against the background. The background is a very prominent image, so I didn't want to lose too much of a focus.
This effect looks at though you are looking through tinted windows, which is similar to Jazz windows in bars. It's also quite arty, which again links to the genre of Jazz. This meets the client brief as it is original content.

I used the eyedropper tool to create consistency across both the front and double page spread. I planned to use a clear colour scheme across both sample pages as it is important for the readers to identify the brand. I also used this tool as reflects the vibrant music scene. The vibrant colours does this.
