Evaluate the response (U21: D1)

Learning Objective: Be able to pitch ideas on a proposed media product and respond to questions

Below I will expand on the five pieces of feedback that the client gave to me. I will decide whether they are useful pieces of information, or whether I think they are not. If they are they will help me to develop my production further.
  • Good research and rationales shown within the pitch
I won't necessarily act on this further, however it is important to support all decisions through good research. I looked a severe competitors and visited several Jazz clubs to help with my research.
  • Font choices = Title font was good, but does it fit with the genre of the entire Jazz magazine. Does it link too much to only live Jazz?
I have decided not to take this piece of feedback on board, as I did not feel that it solely linked to live Jazz. I have stuck with it as the Spotlights are associated quite naturally with Jazz and I couldn't find another. I also feel that it will clearly stand out more to my readers.
  • Colour choices = Why did I pick those colours?
I chose the gold because it's a vibrant colour. When people see gold they subconsciously associate it with luxury and warmth; this will influence my potential audience to buy the magazine. Furthermore, gold is a recurring theme in jazz. Brass instruments and saxophones are traditionally gold and spotlights in jazz bars are usually gold. Gold is appropriate for the magazine due to its connotations with jazz.
I chose the deep purple because it's representative of the night time, when most jazz events would take place. Purple is a bold colour that would advertise the magazine as it catches peoples attention.
I chose the turquoise green as its bright and complimentary to the purple. Therefore the contrast between the turquoise green and the purple would create a calm and dreamy mood.
I will not being changing my colours, however I will slightly mute them as the client felt that they needed to reflect the vibrancy of North London more. As you can see below this is how I have developed my colours to be used in my final production.

This is my old colour scheme

  • Online marketing = Is the digital focus on marketing your USP? How is this going to work in a digital space?
As this is my USP, I feel like the biggest audience these days will be reached through having a presence on social media. The client agreed with me, but explained that I need to make it obvious. To develop this further I will make sure that a website (www.allthatjazz.com) and social media links will be available and obvious throughout the creation of my magazine.
I will also offer sponsorship deals with independent shops where I would advertise their business and in return they would sell my magazine. I would promote the magazine on bus stop billboards near jazz venues in north London and put up posters at jazz festivals such as the EFG London jazz festival. I can use these shops and companies as digital marketing again to promote them so that they will promote me.

  • Physical digital version would have been good to see
Again, this piece of feedback won't help with the development of my production however it would have been useful to show the client. I have instead changed some of my materials (an example is above) to begin to decide it colours compliment each other.
